Common questions

Answers before you pick up the phone

How we work with studios, what an audit or integration involves, and what to prepare. Practical answers for producers, studio managers and technical leads planning live television work.

Frequently asked questions

What size of studio do you work with?

We work with anything from a single-desk news studio to a multi-camera interview or entertainment floor. Small rooms often benefit most from careful planning because space, noise and heat are tight. We do not take on work we cannot document properly, so we will say so early if a project is outside what we do well.

Can you work around equipment we already own?

Yes, and most projects do. We start by listing what you have, check how each item connects, and only recommend replacements where something limits reliability or picture and sound quality. The aim is a system your crew can run every day, not a shopping list. Existing vision mixers, routers and intercom are often kept.

What does a technical audit actually involve?

We visit the studio, inspect signal paths, power, cabling, camera positions, lighting and room acoustics, and watch your crew run a normal session. You then receive a written report ranking issues by how much they affect live output. Hands-on training for your crew can follow the report, and it is agreed separately.

Do you train our camera operators and crew?

Yes. James Whitaker leads camera coaching on framing, movement and matching cameras for interviews and live shows, and training is built around your own set and programmes. Sessions are practical, using your equipment and your presenters. We can also cover run sheets and fault procedures with the wider production team.

Can you improve a room with poor sound?

Usually, yes. Priya Nair assesses the room, recommends treatment and microphone placement, and explains which changes matter most for speech clarity. Many problems come from reflections and background noise rather than microphones. We advise on a sensible order of work so you can improve the room in stages if budget requires.

Do you help with lighting for different presenters?

Daniel Okafor plans key, fill and backlight setups that suit both presenters and cameras, using dimmable fixtures. He also considers heat and power use, which matter in small studios. The plan is documented so your crew can recreate the look and adjust it for different guests.

Will you be on site during live broadcasts?

We can attend a first live programme after an integration or workflow change, so problems are caught while we are there. After that, our aim is for your team to run the studio independently. We leave documentation, run sheets and fault procedures so day-to-day production does not depend on us.

Where are you based and where do you travel?

Our office is at 14 Navigation Road, York, and we work with studios across the United Kingdom. Most of the work happens on site at your studio, with planning and reporting done remotely. Tell us your location when you enquire and we will confirm what travel involves.
