Studios, cameras, sound and light at work
A look at the kinds of rooms, equipment and routines we work with, from wiring a control room to setting key and fill on a news desk.
Details from the work we do
These scenes show the materials, tools and settings we deal with day to day. Each one reflects a step in how we plan, install or review a studio.

01 Control room with vision mixer and monitor wall
A vision mixer, router panel and monitor wall wired as one system. We label every connection and keep a schedule that matches what is physically installed.

02 Camera on pedestal at a news desk
Camera height, distance and lens are chosen for the presenter and the desk. We check framing with the operator so the look stays steady across a whole programme.

03 Acoustic panels on a studio wall
Absorbent panels placed where measurements showed reflections. Treatment is planned around the room's real problems rather than covering every surface.

04 Overhead lighting rig above a set
Dimmable fixtures rigged for key, fill and backlight. We balance the look with heat and power so presenters stay comfortable during long shows.

05 Gallery crew during a live rehearsal
Producer, director and vision mixer working through a run sheet before going to air. Rehearsals expose timing and cueing problems while they are still cheap to fix.

06 Equipment rack inspected during an audit
An engineer checking a rack with a tablet during an on-site review. Findings go into a written report ranked by what to fix first.
